- The Coffee Experience:
Services; Nabisere Hotel will expose you to a coffee experience from coffee nursery; coffee planting; coffee management; coffee harvesting; coffee pulping, coffee roasting, coffee pounding using a local motor and coffee cup tasting.
One of the options is Miti Farmers Group where the farmers around MITI village organised themselves into a group to share best farming practice and improve their bargaining power with ‘middlemen’ by selling their produce collectively.
The group now offer a chance for tourists to visit the farm to see coffee production from the plant to the cup. Visit the Mr Kasekende’s coffee seedling nursery and gardens and, in the harvesting season, pick the ripe cherries from the trees. Then see how the coffee is dried and packed for wholesale.
Afterwards, join the local ladies roasting and pounding the coffee and chat with them as you drink a cup. As you leave they will give you a souvenir bag of roasted coffee to take home with you. Finally, should you wish to, you can visit the local coffee processing factory on your way back to the hotel. Please bring walking boots or strong trainers.
Nabisere hotel and FADSI (a local Community based organisation) have teamed up to help local people establish services for tourists. We work with FADSI members to offer business advice and training for example in hygienic production methods or customer care so they can offer quality products and services. We would be very pleased to help you plan a visit to see any of these activities during your stay with us; just contact us.
Kalisizo is a poor rural community but our aim is to encourage a self-help approach amongst local people so these tourism activities have been established as sustainable business initiatives not charity projects. All profits go to group members. However, if you wish to make a charitable donation during your visit to Kalisizo, we would welcome support for FADSI or the children of Little Flowers Primary school (appropriate items might include footballs and netballs, classroom materials [coloured pencils, scissors, glue etc], story books, musical instruments and toys. These can all be bought in Kampala if you do not wish to carry them from home).

- Back cloth marking process Experience:
Services; Bark cloth is a stiff, rust coloured cloth made from the bark of the Ficus tree.
Traditionally it has been used for clothing (particularly ceremonial) and to line coffins but these days it has a wider variety of uses especially in the craft industry for making beautiful items like bags, cushion covers and wall hangings. You will see how the bark is removed from the tree and the tree protected so the bark re-grows. Group members will then show you how it is processed and you will be invited to participate at certain stages of production.
Nabisere will arranges activities where you can participate in: ficus tree planting, watch the process of the bark being removed from the tree and turned into a cloth for traditional and ceremonial uses and modern crafts, see different crafts made from bark cloth
Throughout your visit you will meet the very friendly group members and can talk to them about their lives in Kalisizo. Bark cloth items will be on sale during your visit or back at the hotel gift shop.
